Pitch

Hell-o Live is a 3D local multiplayer party game where you and up to 3 other friends fight in an arena to see which of you dies the least. Dodge projectiles, push your friends into traps and claim victory in multiple game modes

You play as little souls in a game show in limbo, winner gets a change at Resurrection! It is presented by two hosts, a demon and an angel.


Currently in development for Steam Release. (Hiatus)

Platform: PC

Controls: Gamepad

Players: 2-4 players

Engine: Unity 

Dev Start: October 2022

Dev End: April 2023  (7 Months)

Final touches needed for release.

Accomplishments

  • Worked as the only Artist making assets in 3D and 2D.

  • Created an Artistic Direction and visual identity for the game 

  • Created many UI elements to give life to our menus.  

  • Designed all 2 Characters.

  • Worked on a genre (party games) I was not familiar with.

  • Worked in this project with an aim to publish it.

Worked on this project as Creative Director (having pitched the idea), Game Designer, Game Artist and Level Designer. This game was developed by a team of 7 developers and 2 marketing specialists. 

 

Created and implemented an artistic direction while making 3D and 2D assets. Worked on implementing dynamic levels and testing PvP mechanics and game modes.

About The Game

Push - Dodge - Laugh - Win

This is the type of game that you play with your friends on together on your couch. It is a fun party-game offering multiple game modes. The main mechanic is simple : Push your "frenemies" into incoming projectiles (inspired by bullet hells), traps, spikes and laugh at their death as you try to die the least. The levels evolve during the match and power ups may spawn in the arena giving players who get to them first fun advantages.

It is a lighthearted non serious game aimed to give players a good time.

Gamemodes

We have designed multiple game modes in order to give variety and replayability to the game. Some game modes can be wackier than others like actual "football".

Dynamic Levels

The levels in the arena are dynamic and change. Different layouts exist that swap in randomly containing walls, holes with spikes and turrets. This offers action and unpredictability to the game.

My Part

  • Created and implemented an artistic direction.
     

  • Made 3D models for the arena.
     

  • Worked on creating 2D Art / Assets for UI elements and menus with juicy animations.
     

  • Created layouts for our dynamic levels.
     

  • Created and tested different game modes.

Development

My Experience

This project was for me an opportunity to try and publish a game. I came up with the idea of Hell-o Live based on a simple mechanic and wanted to develop something fairly easily that can be built upon. With the team, we managed to get everything working fairly quickly making it easier for us to really focus on game feel and player experience to make the game as fun as possible.

I really enjoyed working on this project. Being the lead artist I had total liberty to make what I wanted and I settled on this wacky colorful universe. 

 

Despite it being a year since we worked on this project we still aim to publish it one day.
